GASL ABOUT

Geist Area Soccer League (GASL) is a soccer program open to boys and girls of  ALL levels of ability. There are no player evaluations or tryouts - everyone who registers is placed on a team (where available). Many players who are interested in trying out for competitive teams begin their training by building a solid foundation in our recreational program.

GASL offers Recreational Soccer for ages 3 through 16 in the entire Geist Area. Rec soccer is offered in the Fall (September - October) and the Spring (April - May) seasons. Junior Gryphons(3's)-16U Teams practice one to two evening per week and typically play one game on Saturday throughout an 7-week season offering 7-8 games in a season. We provide our volunteer coaches with coaching clinics, licensing, structured lessons plans and assistance on the field from Sporting Indiana FC/GASL Staff Coaches. In addition to team practices, we offer optional, technical skills training sessions for ages 8U to U16 in our Sporting Indiana FC Travel/Competitive Program. The training sessions are run by experienced coaches and give interested players more opportunity to develop and improve age appropriate skills. Recreational level camps are offered in the summer and fall, and pre-season clinics are also offered (Additional fees apply).

WE AIM TO BE THE BEST

We aspire to provide you a unique experience. We believe in the long lasting effects of 3v3 and 4v4 competition in a player’s development. As our youth recreational players progress into 7v7 and then 9v9 competition, we will organize them in a manner in which they will be competing in 3v3/4v4 competition as well as 7v7 or 9v9 competition. Players will essentially be part of two different leagues within the same season. This approach will enhance player development and lead them to being creatively comfortable on the ball. When the player plays small sided season too, they allows them to get a large amount of touches as well as more scoring opportunities for all players. Thus promotes opportunities for lots of successes which lead to confidence. Also, this teaches players to think quicker and play quicker which enhances their cognitive ability. These skills they gain from small sided play will translate to smart, unselfish and confident players when they play 7v7/9v9 games.  Our purpose and goal is not to simply just run a league, but to manage each youth’s development in a manner that prepares them for the future.

Junior Gryphons to U10 as Rec player, then to Rec Select as 12U - 14U
As players progress through our recreational league and become part of the older age groups, we will begin exposing them to certain items that await them in their soccer future. At the older age groups we will correspond with neighboring recreational leagues to schedule a match or two in the season. This will allow players and their families to get a taste of travel soccer without having to travel much farther than our own home park. We may also invite older players to come and watch Sporting Indiana FC U8 and U10 Academy Team Training Sessions. We may even ask older players to jump into the session, giving them a true feel of what life after recreational league soccer is all about. We may even ask them to watch and/or participate in our Technical Training Program at Sporting Indiana FC.

WHAT IS REC+ or Select Soccer?
If after 10U Rec your player still feels Travel is too much time or too high skill level or too much commitment, then players will head into Select Soccer (formerly REC+) from 12U - 14U.  This will allow teams to be formed without Tryouts and play local clubs with equal level teams, like New Palestine, Greenfield, Pendleton, and Fishers. These games can be played at home or at their fields. It is a great experience for the kids!

We as the staff of Geist Area Soccer League and Sporting Indiana FC look forward to providing you a unique developmental journey in the game of soccer.
