GASL HISTORY

ONCE UPON A TIME...
In the Spring 2017 Chris “Fuzzy” Steeno and Gilberto “G” Pineda, Jr. of Sporting Indiana FC, launched Geist Area Soccer League. After years of trying to support the other local rec programs, they felt the best way to provide the kids of the Geist area (McCordsville, Eastside of Lawrence, the Southside of Fishers, Fortville and Mt. Comfort) is to start their own Rec/Rec+ program. This gives them the freedom and control to create a curriculum that is forward thinking in how you develop youth players of all levels. Chris and Gilberto wanted to have a unique program that focuses on player development, coaching development and thoughtful members services.

BY THE WAY WHO ARE DAVE AND JUSTIN? I wont bore you with the details, but they are awesomesauce and supercool dudes who are the Leagues new Directors. We have been very blessed to have these guys step up and help run this program. These two soccer guys are set to deliver their passion for fun and positive youth development on to your coaches and players. Please if you see them at the fields, introduce yourself so they can put a face with the name.

JUSTIN BASTIN

Justin Bastin has lived in the McCordsville area since 2008 with his wife Christy and his three daughters Kaylee, Taylor, and Jayde. His family is very active in sports with Kaylee playing travel volleyball, Taylor playing travel soccer, and Jayde playing in GASL with Justin as her coach. Justin has coached at the recreational level for over 5 years, and enjoys working with the younger players. He is a proud graduate of the Kelley School of Business where he graduated with a degree in Financial Analysis, and Indiana Wesleyan University with a Master’s Degree in Managerial Accounting. When he is not at one of his daughters’ many activities, Justin is employed at MacAllister Machinery where he is a Continuous Improvement Project Manager.

DAVE BENSON

Dave Benson originally hails from Highland, Indiana and has been involved in soccer since an early age. Starting as a player, he then worked as a referee before going off to college at DePauw University earning his MBA in Information Technology Management. DePauw is also where he met his wife Gabie. Since, he has lived in Indianapolis he has been working with LSC and GASL organizations since 2015 and holds a US Soccer “E” License. He brings a passion for the game as well as working with children. Dave feels that the key to getting kids to love the game is to emphasize fun whenever possible. Outside of soccer, Dave works as an IT Manager at Steak ‘n Shake and enjoys spending time with his two young boys, Elliott and Josh.

CHRIS 'FUZZY' STEENO

Chris Steeno Chris "Coach Fuzzy" Steeno has been coaching for two decades. He has served on the Board since 2012 and as coach with the Club since the Spring 2009 season. Beyond the Board responsibilities, is the Executive Director for the Geist Area Soccer League. He is the Assistant Director for the The High School Showcase and supports creating opportunities for players who want to play at the next level. When he is not at Sporting Indiana FC, Chris is the MVHS Boys Varsity Coach and enjoys his time with his wife of over 20 years and their two young sons, Ryan and Max. FUZZY'S BIO
